How Does Tarot Work?

EXACTLY WHAT IS THE TAROT AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Hi, this is Dusty. I think the question that I am asked the most is “how does the tarot work” or “what exactly is the tarot”? So, I’m not going to waste your time with a lengthy history lesson, or speak in terms that you are unfamiliar with. As my clients already know, I like to get right to the point.

WHERE DID THE TAROT COME FROM?

There are a number of different theories, stories, guesses, and assumptions. But what we do know is that the oldest surviving tarot cards are from 15th Century Italy. That’s the 1600’s my friends, which to put it mildly, means that they must have survived because they work. The images on tarot cards, as well as the interest in being able to predict events through symbols, goes all the way back to Ancient Egypt. There are some who believe that the tarot may have traveled in trading caravans from the Middle East to Europe during the Crusades. OK, that’s enough about history, so next….

WHAT IS THE TAROT?

The tarot deck is divided into 2 parts: the major arcana and the minor arcana. Neither part is more important than the other, just different. Each part provides us with different information from which we create the whole.

Now, the major arcana is made up of 22 cards, numbered 0 through 21. The images found on the cards depends upon the artist that created the deck. The word arcana means “secret” or “mysterious knowledge”. The secrets are held in the images pictured on the cards. Now there are books available which will tell you the traditional meanings of each picture on each card. But the tarot is more than that. The pictures are meant to stimulate the readers creative and intuitive nature.

The next 56 cards are called the minor arcana. The minor arcana is divided into 4 suits, and each suit has 4 court cards: king, queen, prince and princess. Just like a regular deck of cards. The rest of the minor arcana cards are numbered ace through 10.

When a reading is begun, and one of these 4 court cards are drawn as the 1st card, it usually means that the person represented on the card is someone you know or will soon meet, and that they have a great influence over your future. If the 1st card drawn is one of the numbered cards, then you are the prime motivator in your future. If a major arcana card is drawn as the 1st card, it usually means that your life will be changed by outside events, big opportunities, or major challenges. However, these cards are read in relation to the adjacent cards, as well as a number of other factors in the reading.

If the 1st card drawn is a wand, be ready for action. If coins or pentacles is drawn, look at the roots of your life. If swords are drawn then ideas and communication are important now. If cups are drawn, then you should be looking at your emotions and the people you are involved with. Now another question…..
Can the tarot predict the future?

Well, the science of quantum physics has finally proven what psychics have always known: time is just another dimension. That means that time is a changing, flowing energy, just like the grooves on an old record. It means that the future is already here, just as the past is as real as your memories. And if your memories are accessible to you, then so is the future.

However, the tarot does not dictate the future. It just shows you how the past, present, and future all work together. Another question….

How come my reading can be different today than it might be from the one I had 2 weeks ago?

Well, that’s very easy actually. It is important to remember that you always have free will. That means that if you don’t like a particular outcome that you hear today, you always have the power to change your thoughts and therefore your life, at any time. You really are the captain of your fate and the ruler of your destiny.

What I read for you today is the energy that is in place at this very moment. You or the other person involved have the power to change that at any time. That’s why the tarot is such a terrific tool for your growth. It can show you some of the potential pitfalls and let you make changes accordingly. In other words, if you don’t like your future, just change it. You can and do do that every day. The reality that you are living today is the sum total of all the thoughts and choices that you have made yesterday, the day before, and you’re whole life. We have nobody else to blame. We have total responsibility. The good new about having total responsibility is that we can make new choices right this minute. Then all we have to do is stick to it!!

ARE SOME CARDS UNLUCKY?

Absolutely not! But of course there are some cards that may allude to a period of extra good fortune or a smooth path for relationships. Other cards will tell you or warn you of challenges and difficulties that you could encounter, and that you need to make better choices.

WHAT ABOUT THE CARDS THAT COME OUT REVERSED?

When a card is reversed, it does change the original meaning a bit, but it does not mean that it is dark or negative.

I hope that this has answered some of the more basic questions about the tarot. It is an intricate study that people spend a lifetime learning. And a good reader never quits learning. It is also dependent upon the psychic abilities that the reader has developed, as well as the mood or mental state at the time the reader is working with their cards. Hopefully, the reader recognizes when they are having a bad day, or it just seems that the information is not flowing. That’s when a good reader will pack up their cards for the day and try another time.

Also remember that there is some information that the universe may not feel ready for you to hear or know about. That’s because it might unduly influence you to make changes that would not be in your soul’s best interest. We are all here to learn lessons in life, and to remember who we truly are. Wonderful creations of God or your Higher Power, connected to each plant, animal, and human on the face of this earth. Hurting one hurts all of us.

I wish you love, light, and peace in your life. Remember to create a life you truly want to live!

Namaste
