History Of The Psychic Reader

The first psychic readers were nothing more than astrologers that were using the ancient practice of astrology to tell the future. Astrology is the study of the stars and celestial bodies. It was believed that a persons date of birth held a special significance to the current positioning of the heavens. In astrology the astrologer could tell the future for that person based on the current celestial alignments and that persons date of birth. The system was very complex, and in ancient times and was used by many ancient leaders to plan everything from battles to marriage. These astrologers were the first record we have of anything resembling a modern day psychic reader. Astrology is still strong to this day.
The Oracle at Delphi was the next historical development in the ancient world that could be considered as an origin of the modern day psychic. The oracle was located in Apollo’s temple at Delphi. It is here that a priestess known as Pythia would divine prophecy. A person that was seeking guidance from the Oracle would pay the priests of the Oracle a fee. That person was then allowed to ask a question of the Oracle. The priestess would then go through a ritual and would deliver a message to the priests. The priests would then give the answer to the person that had asked the question. The Oracle was a type of ancient psychic reader, where for a fee, she would divine an answer and deliver it to the one that asked.
Over the centuries many people came and went that claimed to have psychic abilities. They would always charge a fee and deliver to the payer answers to the information they sought. The psychic reading would always be some sort of divined insight the psychic received through their special powers.
The most famous psychic before modern times was one Michel de Nostredame. This was the famous Nostradamus that to this day is revered as having had a true ability to tell the future. Nostradamus published over 6,300 prophecies during his lifetime. These prophecies were for the future and covered many aspects of life such as earthquakes, the rise and fall of countries, wars, and floods. His prophecies said what would happen, but not when. This has led many to attribute modern events as being those predicted by Nostradamus. Nostradamus is by far the most famous psychic reader in all of history.
The type of spiritism and divination that we commonly associate with psychics to this day was first seen in the 1800′s. This is when mediums that were also able to act as a psychic tarot reader became more prevalent. These psychic mediums also claimed they could speak with the dead and channel the spirit world.
Today the psychic reader claims to be able to read tarot cards, channel spirits, and tell the future as a tarot reader. These psychics are said to have developed their powers in order to help others by providing a psychic reading to anyone that seeks them out. Similar to the Oracle but with much more expanded abilities.
